Website design for photographers

A photographer's website is a portfolio that has to load before the visitor loses interest — and it has to rank for 'photographers in your city'. Ours start at R2 950, with galleries built for speed rather than megabytes.

What a photography website has to get right

The standard failure is a gallery that is beautiful and unusable — full-size images, no organisation, slow on a phone. What works instead:

  • Galleries built for speed. Compressed to the size the screen actually needs, loading lazily as the visitor scrolls.
  • One page per genre. Weddings, corporate, product, family — each genre is its own search and its own page, with its own gallery.
  • A pricing page. Shoot packages with real numbers. Most photographers hide prices; stating them is a genuine differentiator.
  • Your city and area stated plainly, so 'wedding photographer Stellenbosch' can find you.

Selling prints and digital files

For prints and file sales you do not need a full store. A PayFast payment link per order works at small volume; a proper store with galleries, variants and delivery starts at R12 000 — the same e-commerce website design route as any other business.

What it costs

R2 950, R4 950 or R7 950, fixed, with hosting and your domain covered for the first year. See website design packages for the full inclusion list. Agents hire photographers for listings — see how we build for real estate agents.

Common questions

How much does a photographer's website cost?

R2 950 for a three-page Starter, R4 950 for a seven-page Business site, R7 950 for a twelve-page Pro site. Fixed and quoted up front — see packages and prices.

Will my photographs be ruined by compression?

No — compressed is not the same as degraded. We size images to what each screen can actually show and keep the quality setting high. Your photographs look the way they should, and the page loads in time for the visitor to see them.

Can clients proof and download through the site?

A private client-proofing area is a custom build with logins and galleries — we quote it separately and honestly rather than pretending it fits a package. Most photographers are better served by one of the purpose-built proofing services, which we are happy to link to.

Which platform do you build photographer sites on?

Static pages for speed by default — galleries are where static shines. Where you want to swap images yourself weekly, we build on WordPress. The trade-off is explained in WordPress vs Wix vs Shopify.
